After witnessing her bonded bear Brugen killed by sister Fiona, Emma wakes in a classroom, returned to the day of magical creature binding ritual. Professor Madison assigns the unwanted grey-maned bear to Emma—but Fiona interrupts. She gives Emma her golden dragon hatchling and takes Brugen instead. Emma realizes this is her second chance. Though mocked by classmates, she knows that in half a month, deadly frost will change everything.
