Digital blackout, no phone, no WiFi nothing. She’d say the machine doesn’t lie. After ten years of this, Stella started to believe it, too. She thought maybe she really was born wrong. 

On New Year’s Eve, everything changed. Mom was getting ready to take Emma to see the ball drop in Times Square. And that’s when the pain hit like a knife twisting in Stella’s gut. She collapsed on the floor, her skeletal frame curling into itself.

Her hand shook as she wrote: “Mom, I really love you. It really hurts. Why won’t you believe me? Please believe me just once. ” The moment she finished the last word, the pain vanished. The girl was dead.

After Stella's death, everyone in the family thought she was just asleep because the band on her hand was still glowing red. At this point, Stella's soul had already left her body. She kept shouting for her parents to go to the room and see her body. But the soul couldn't interact with humans. The parents stubbornly believed that Stella staying in the room was a way for her to rebel against them. Thus, Stella's body gradually decomposed in the room.
