Part one: The Red Collar of Lies Storyline Breakdown

The Red Collar of Lies is a werewolf short drama set in fictional dynasty. It tells Stella’s tragic life caused by her mother’s blind belief in a tool that can test whether you tell a lie or not. 

Her mom called Stella a liar from the day she was born not because she actually lied but because of a thing around her neck, the verity choker.  

Her mom was Luna of Silver moon pack and she believed one thing above all: lying was the mark of a weak wolf. She and her sister were future Alpha heirs so weakness was not an option. When her twin sister Emma and she were born, her mom clasped those chokers around their throats which had witch magic to detect lies. Green light means truth while red light means you were lying. 

Her sister Emma’s choker is always green. Although she did something bad, mom would praise her once she saw the green light. She could shred Mom’s ceremonial cloak and blame the cat. And the gem on her choker would glow a steady green. 

But when things come to Stella, it’s different. On that day, she was hungry and wanted her mom to cook some food for her. The choker flashed red light and choked tight. Stella shifted on instinct a small white wolf, pawing desperately at the gem around her neck. She used her claws scraping against the choker but it’s difficult to get it off. She said desperately, “I’m not lying, please.” But her mom’s eyes had already gone cold. Then, she would get an instant punishment. She would be locked in a room without food and have no contact with anyone in the pack. Her mother always said “The choker doesn’t lie. I’m doing this for your own good.” After ten years, Stella started believing the choker and thought she was always lying. It can be said that Stella’s life is ruined by the verity choker.

Stella

On New Year’s Eve, her mother even locked her in the room. At that time, she had a stomachache. She said to her mom but her mom didn’t believe because of the red light. Unluckily, the ache was beyond the degree she can accept and finally she lost her life. Her death wasn’t discovered instantly. Her corpse had been rotting in the room. 

Stella was reborn as Grace. In this life, she gets a loving family. She became the people she wanted to be. What’s more, she encountered a girl who had a family like the one she used to live in. Stella protected her from repeating her tragedy.    

Emma

Emma’s choker flashes green light so she wins more love from her mother. She liked to do bad things and blamed it on other people. But the mother always believes her and praises her virtue of honesty. With time going by, the choker became an indispensable part of her life. Even when dad wanted to take her to other places, she tried to take her green choker. 

Years later, Emma grew up without guidance and with a trail of shame behind her. She drifted from pack to pack, stealing to survive. No one would take her in. When she ran out of her options, she remembered mom was still alive. She slipped back into the Silverman pack under the cover of night not for love but for money. The mother beat her fiercely and Emma bolted into the forest where there were rogues that haunted the borderlands preying on anyone. Emma survived barely but both of her legs shattered beyond repair.  

Part three: The Red Collar of Lies Highlights

Episode 18

Stella’s death became the talk of the entire pack. Lisa, the neighbor who had sent for the pack healer, told everyone what she’d seen. Every wolf knew by morning. “Luna had starved her own daughter to death.” 

Everyone in the pack scolded Stella’s mom as monster or a murderer. Stones flew at their door. The word killer carved into the wall. The council convened within the day. The verdict was swift. Stella’s dad lost his alpha title. No wolf would follow him. Stella’s grandfather, the former alpha, read out the judgment himself. He didn’t look at his son once. Stella’s dad walked out of the council hall and never looked back. He took Emma and left the pack that same night. 

Emma was a bad seed but she was still his blood. Before they left, Emma tried to take her green choker. Dad stomped on it. Emma cried as he dragged her away. 

Episode 20

The episode presents Stella’s mom’s self-redemption. Stella’s death made her realize the wrongness of blind belief in machines. She wore the choker to experience what Stella went through in her lifetime. 

Stella’s mom started reenacting her diary entries. Stella couldn’t eat celery because of her allergy so she forced herself to eat spoiled food until she vomited blood then swallowed it back down. Stella was locked in isolation so she locked herself in her old room lights off and bowed to Stella’s portrait until her forehead bled. She bowed over and over. There was lots of blood on the floor. Late at night, she’d see the red glow of the bloodstone reflected on the wall. To her mom, it looked like her bloody eyes were watching. She kept punishing herself. The wounds healed slower and slower. Her wold exhausted by months of self-torture and slowly fell into a deep sleep. Her mom didn’t care and she scrawled on the back of Stella’s journal, “I’m sorry. I was wrong. Red means pain. Red means love. Please come back and say it hurts one more time. I will save you. I promise.” 

Eventually the new Alpha intervened because her mom’ self-harm had gone too far. She nearly choked herself to death with her own hands. Alpha ordered her to move to a small hut at the far edge of the village locked from the outside. Someone posted to watch her day and night. She was the strangest woman they’d ever seen. Nobody knew where she’d found it, a frayed red cord tied around her own neck. It was her homemade choker. If anyone tried to remove it, she’d snap at them with teeth bared snarling and wild eyed. She said to them “Don’t touch me. Stella’s watching. She’ll be mad if you take it.” Every time the guard called her name and brought her food, Stella’s mom would grab the red cord and pull it tight against her own throat, convulsing screaming.  

Even if the food was scalding hot, she’d gulp it down burning her throat and wouldn’t spit it out. Stella’s mother was reenacting her final moments, living her hell on repeat.

The Red Collar of Lies is far more than a simple werewolf drama. It is a fable about the devastating consequences of blind faith in technology. The former part of the story makes people feel depressed. Stella’s rebirth as Grace offers a sliver of hope. The Red Collar of Lies ultimately leaves its audience with a haunting question: when we place our absolute trust in systems and machines to define truth for us, do we risk strangling the very ones we are meant to protect?
